Landmine Drinking Game
Landmine is a drinking game where players spin a quarter while drinking beer. Players can only drink when it is their turn and when their quarter is still spinning. This game, also known as Kaboom, is well-known in colleges and universities across the USA.
The equipment required for this game are a smooth table that isn’t glass, a few quarters, masking tape, players, and a lot of beer. All the players must sit around the table and this area, as wide as two beer cans, must be marked by tape. Each player has to have a game beer, a side beer, and a drinking cup on hand. The cup is optional but all three must be off the table.
Every player is allowed to drink his or her side beer at any given time. When the side beer is consumed, it can be used as a weapon/landmine. On the table, player 1 will spin a quarter and must drink from his entire beer, then he has to capture the quarter before it either stops spinning, falls off the table, or hits a landmine. If the quarter stops spinning and the player didn’t get to grab it, he must fill the game cup and start again. Each player must keep in mind that they are only allowed to use one hand for everything, meaning the task of picking up a quarter has to be done using the same hand that you use for drinking and spinning.
This procedure is repeated until the player finishes the job, then he passes it to his left and the game continues, but there is a catch. Any player that has already finished his or her beer can slam the can down on someone else’s quarter when it is in mid-spin. When this occurs, the person who was spinning has to finish their beer and the slammed can stays on the table, can’t be removed, and is now a landmine. This is when the game gets trickier and when the drinking becomes abundant. A lot of landmines make it harder to spin the quarter. In addition, if your quarter touches a landmine while it was spinning, you have to take four drinks, and if it stops spinning when it hits a landmine you have to finish your beer. The longer the game goes, the more landmines end up on the table.
There are a lot of additional rules that have been established throughout the game’s existence. For example, another possible way of playing is to grab the quarter in between the middle and ring finger, making it more difficult to catch the quarter. Another rule actually creates a winner. Players are allowed to “tap out” or remove themselves from the game. The price to pay is to endure mockery and ridicule. The last person to remain after all the other players have tapped out is the winner. You can even have a rule that allows players to remove their comrades’ landmines. This makes the game last longer; the longer it lasts the more you get to drink.
This game is a flurry of fun from beginning to end. The best thing of all is that it doesn’t get boring after awhile because of the ever growing number of landmines covering the table. This is the perfect game to play when you’re at a party.
