Flip The Cup Drinking Game AKA Cups
Flip cup is a drinking game that requires at least two teams. It is known by other names, such as cups, flipper, tippy cup and taps. It s a drinking relay race and is said to be the North American version of the game “boat race”.
The game doesn’t require much in terms of equipment. The players need a table, a cup for each of them, and a large quantity of beer. The number of players required for this game is at least four or more as long as they make two equal teams. The alcohol tolerance required from each player is high.
The game begins with the two teams standing on opposite sides of the table. Whoever is standing in front of another player is that player’s opponent. The cup in front of each player is filled with equal amounts of beer. At the start of the race, the players to go first drink from their cups. When they’re finished, the cup is placed on the table right side up and the person who drank from it has to flip it upside down. If that player doesn’t accomplish it on the first try, the cup has to be put the right side up and reflipped. When the player gets the cup to flip, the next person can have their turn. The first team who finishes drinking and flipping all their cups is the winner.
The reason why this game is so well-known is because of the different variations it has. In fact, this game is so popular that there are competitions that go on in different areas of the United States. Variations of this game can include substitutions or removals of players from losing teams.
Though the rules to this game may vary depending on where it’s played, the standard rules always remain the same.
In a standard match, once a player has been assigned to a team, he or she can’t switch to another team until the match is over. When it comes to the teams’ positioning on the table, each of them can pick the side they want to be on and they themselves have to make sure that the beer they pour in their cups are the same amount as their opponents’. In other variations, the losing team is allowed to choose what amount of beer should be played in the following game.
When it comes to the table, one end should be made the starting end and the other one should be made the anchor end. On the starting end, the first player is assigned the first cup and it follows down the line. The game officially begins when the first players on each team says “the gentleman’s start” Also known as “touch and go”–this is when both players tap each other’s cup and tap the table right after. After this gesture, the game can proceed until a winning team is declared.
When two cups of the opposing teams land at the same time, the players will have to go to a tie breaker, but it should be kept in mind that when two cups hit the table at the same time, it’s the cup that settles first that wins.
When a team wins their first round, it doesn’t mean that they win the whole game. Each win is equal to one point and the team that reaches the designated score is declared the overall winner. If there are five players in a team, the first team to reach five winning games wins the match. This method is designed so that each player in each team gets a chance to start a round.
Like all games, Flip Cup also has restrictions on how the game is supposed to be played. For example, only one hand should be used to flip a cup. If two hands are used, it is called an illegal flip. The other hand that isn’t used for flipping can be used to assist in balancing the cup on the edge of the table. The only time two hands are allowed to be used is when a complete flip isn’t made and the cup has to be reset or to put the cup on the edge of the table.
This game’s popularity has reached new heights, proven by the number of tournaments ongoing. In fact, there is even merchandise to promote this beloved drinking game.
