Coordination Games: Brains and Brawn

Coordination games are another type of drinking game. These are difficult to play, yet fun because of the humorous results that these games can provide. They require the players to use their skills, and the games become more difficult as the player’s drunkenness level increases. These games can be considered a combination of endurance and thinking games. Coordination games also include games that use quarters or coins.

"Flip Cup" is a coordination game that requires players to be in teams. This game is a drinking relay race and it is another version of the game “Boat Race”. The two teams stand on both sides of the table, facing each other. The person in front of a player is their opponent. A cup is filled with beer in front of each person and when the game begins, the first member of each team drinks their respective beer cups. When they’re done, the cup is placed right side up on the table. The person who drank from it has to flip it upside down. If they didn’t get to flip the cup on their first time, the cup must be reset and re-flipped again. Only when someone flips a cup successfully can the next person start to drink. The team that finishes drinking all their cups and flipping them over is declared the winner. Like most games, this game has its own variations that include the removal or substitution of a player or more from the losing team.

An example of a game that uses coins or quarters is Chandeliers. This game is similar to the game Quarters, but it moves a lot faster because there are a lot more targets to hit. This game requires a lot of beer, a large glass, a small glass for each player, and several quarters. Before the game can begin, the large glass must be filled with beer and put at the center of the table, and the smaller glasses, also filled with beer, are arranged around the large center in a center and in front of the players. This game has a lot of rules. For example, when a player bounces a quarter and it lands in another player’s cup, the owner of the cup has to drink. If the quarter lands on the large glass every player must drink from their glass and the last to set down their glass must drink from the large glass as well.

These games require more equipment and people compared to some, but that’s what makes it all the more fun.
